What is a fanlisting?

What is Protector of the Small?

Protector of the Small is a series of four books written by the wonderfully talented Tamora Pierce. The series takes place in the kingdom of Tortall, established in Pierce's previous Song of the Lioness and The Immortals series.

In PotS, we follow the life of Keladry of Mindelan (Kel) as she sets forth to be the first openly female Knight in 100 years. (Alanna the Lioness is already recognized as a lady knight, but she underwent her training in disguise.)

The series is filled with action and adventure, as Kel steadfastly undergoes rigorous training and unfriendly reactions from people who want to see her fail. Strong-willed and brave, Kel survives through it all, finally achieving her dream of becoming a Lady Knight.

Why make a fanlisting?

I am a great fan of Tamora Pierce novels, having read the Immortals and Circle of Magic series. Her writing style always succeeds in bringing the reader into the story and making the characters come to life from the pages.

Protector of the Small was no different. I found myself idolizing Kel, a normal girl who simply wanted to fight and protect the people of the Realm. Unlike Alanna, she was not a mage or God-touched in any way; relying only on her wits and strength of heart to see her through. A perfect role-model for young girls to grow into independent, head-strong women.

Naturally, it was apparent the series needed a fanlisting. Agreed? ^_^
